Network of roads
The significant improvement in road communications in the last years, have made Murcia
one of the Spanish regions with better communications. Murcia has a net of 3.751
kilómetros.
The Region´s road network links Murcia to all major Spanish cities and,
with Mediterranean freeway, France and Portugal can be reached easily (tha latter
via Andalusia).
New projects have been already finished, like the motorways that
communicate the coastal towns between each other and Murcia with the surounding
regions.
Nowadays, other projects are been developed, with the intention to facilitate
the comunications between the hinterland of Murcia and the coast
Network of railways
In the region of Murcia there are 9 train stations.
There are connections with Madrid
and with the Mediterranean arch. The rail network also provides a quick and easy
way to reach other Spanish and European destinations.
Very interesting will be the
arrival of AVE (Spanish High Speed Train) in 2014.
The AVE will connect Madrid and
Murcia through Alicante in 2014 It will reach a speed of 350 Km/h. and will shorten
the distance and time from the capital of the country to Murcia. Murcia’s train
station area will be reform with the creation of 1400 dwellings, business center,
shopping center, green areas and the burial of 6’5 km of raiway lines.
Airports
Having two airports of the Region of MurciaSan Javier and Corvera Interctional Airport
and two in the neighboring provinces of Alicante (aprox. 60 km from the city of
Murcia) and Almería, guarantees easy connections to main European cities.
San Javier’s
Airport (aprox. 45 km) is increasing its arrivals every year, receiving nearly 2
million people in 2008.
Mainly, it is due to the arrival of low cost companies

Corvera (aprox. 20 km ) it is planned to be open in 2010, with an enlargement in
2015. The initial forecast is that it will received 5.2 in the first five years
Even the Airbus-380 (the biggest plane in the world) will be able to land, because
of the size of the landing strips.
The terminal will have three floors, 22.500 m2
and the capacity to attend 2.000 passengers per hour.
Harbours
In the region of Murcia there are:
- 19 harbours
- 5.890 moorning points
- 17 nautical clubs
Some of the main ports are Cartagena, Tomás Maestre (La Manga), San Pedro
(Mar Menor) and Puerto de Juan Montiel (Águilas).
It is considered of great importance
for the region of Murcia the
pier for cruises in Cartagena, which receives an average
of 40 ships per year, with more than 35.000 passengers, and it is still increasing.
